Modem/Time Capsule/Express Setup Questions Hello folks, I am trying to optimize my setup. It would be great if I could set it up as a Wi-Fi extender (bridge) for my BT Smarthub. Thank you. ![]() In this mode it will stream from Airplay on my iPhone to the speaker - and it sounds great!īut it’s a pain having to lose the internet to do it and it doesn’t seem very stable. Nonetheless, I can make it work using Airplay by ignoring all three status messages and coming off my Wi-Fi network and joining the Airport Express network. I have set it up in what seems to be a standalone Wi-Fi network with no internet connection (the amber light keeps flashing) and there are three status messages shown in Airport Utility (Ethernet unplugged, no internet connection and no DNS server). I want to use it wirelessly if possible so I don’t have to lay an Ethernet extension cable. Still it did download the latest firmware. But I couldn’t get it to join the network (amber light flashing). I’m having trouble setting up the AirPort Express to link with my BT Smart Hub? I’ve updated the firmware by temporarily plugging it in via an Ethernet cable to my BT Smart Hub. I can, but only in what seems to be a standalone network. I have connected an old B&O speaker to my Apple AirPort Express using the audio socket in the hope that I can use Airplay to stream to the speaker. Those who want to try it now should expect to see some blood.Ĭan I connect my AirPort Express to my BT Smart Hub wirelessly? Hello. WiFi 6 is still pretty much bleeding edge technology. There is a difference between "fully supports Wi-Fi 6" and "Wi-Fi 6 compatible". You won't lose AirPlay / HomeKit, but most AirPlay devices will not really benefit from WiFi 6 because they were not designed to do so. What is the best way to upgrade a W6 system without losing Airplay / Homekit compatibility? Will I still be able to use Homekit and Airplay within that system? Plan on perhaps upgrading most of my network with Wifi 6 at some point (replacing Time Capsule with a W6 router). Will Airplay still work if it is on the same network? This won't be as good as a regular Ethernet connection, but it is almost always better than trying to use Wi-Fi to connect to the Express. If you cannot run an Ethernet cable to the BBQ area for the Express, try using a pair of Ethernet over powerline adapters to send the signal over the AC wiring. The AirPort Express will connect to the Wi-Fi signal from a Wi-Fi 6 router, but not at Wi-Fi 6 speeds or higher security levels like WPA3, so whether or not the Express will perform better with a Wi-Fi 6 router is open to question. Will the wirelessly connected Express in my BBQ area be able to wirelessly connect to a Wifi 6 router (are they typically backwards compatible)? ![]() What is the best way to upgrade a W6 system without losing Airplay / Homekit compatibility?.I plan on perhaps upgrading most of my network with Wifi 6 at some point (replacing Time Capsule with a W6 router).Do I create a new network name or use the same one as the rest of the house?.Will Airplay still work if it is on the same network?. ![]() ![]()
